Meet the face behind the brand
Jan 22, 2025

With over 20 years' experience in the industry, owner Darren and his team take pride in each and every job, whether it's a small one-off repair, regular service or a full installation, all work is carried out to the highest quality. Hear from the man himself in this quickfire interview...
How long have you been in the business and why do you do what you do?
Although I've been in the industry for 20 years, I set up DPG Garage Doors as my own business 7 years ago. I love the job, I love the job satisfaction I get when I see people's faces once the job is done. As daft as it may sound, a new garage door, when installed with care and attention, can literally change people's lives - I've added operators to doors where elderly customers just couldn't manually lift them any more and seeing the difference that can make is hugely rewarding.
Why do you think customers should choose DPG Garage Doors over others?
In my opinion, I think our customer services and aftercare puts us above the rest. We take pride in each and every job. If you look at our reviews (which are all pulled through from Google and from customers themselves), you'll see that all of our customers are extremely happy. If there are any issues whatsoever, we're there - no matter what day and time it is.
We're also a Which? Trusted Trader. This isn't something you just pay for, we had to go through 6 months of rigorous assessments with trading standards where they interviewed customers, watched us on the job, reviewed all of our financial backing and administration processes and we were approved, which was a huge proud moment for us.
Another benefit of going with DPG is that we're a small team, so the face you see that comes to give you your quote, is the face you'll see who comes to install your door, service it and on the rare occasion to sort any issues. Majority of the time, that face is mine so you can rest assured you're in good hands, I don't subcontract work out to other companies. We're family run, we're small and we care!
You mentioned you're a small company - what about backup for customers?
All doors come with manufacturer warranties that are 10-15 years depending on the door and the manufacturer. Many garage door companies market that as their own warranty - we don't - we offer an additional 2 to 3 years' warranty of our own. Like anything with moving parts, things can go wrong, but there are only certain things covered under a manufacturers' warranty. With our additional personal warranty, if anything at all goes wrong with that door, we'll be there. This is all explained to our customers when we provide a quote.
Being Which? approved, also means that customers have backing from Which? if anything was to go wrong and they weren't happy with my resolution.
What doors are on trend for 2025?
We've seen a surge over the past year for roller doors and they're still proving to be popular as we head into 2025. They have a number of benefits - they're space-saving, easy to use, well insulated, come in a range of colours and budget-friendly.
What colours are popular right now?
Anthracite grey is hugely popular and has been for a few years now, however, we're starting to see lighter greys coming into their own such as Agate Grey and Pebble Grey. We're also starting to fit more bespoke RAL colours that customers request to match their windows or front doors.
What additional extras can customers opt for to make their door stand out from the rest?
On side-hinged doors, you can opt for long or short steel handles that add a contemporary edge and different handle options are also available on Up & Over doors too. You can have different locking systems to add that extra layer of security, glazed panels look great too and often complement front door designs.
What is your favourite door to install?
For me, I love installing a sectional door. They add real kerb appeal, have a quality finish, are more secure, and being draft resistant they are warmer too. You'll pay a little more for these doors but they are by far the best type of garage door.
What door should customers opt for if they want a quick install?
Up & Over doors can be installed within 1-2 weeks of ordering and are quick to install. We never rush a job though - when we walk away, we want that door to be right so will always take our time on every job.
When it comes to ordering, do you take deposits?
Although most companies locally do take deposits, I don't. I personally feel that I don't need to take them - I'm good at what I do, I trust my customers and take each and every one on face value. I know my customers will be happy with their new garage door and the service I've provided, so there'll be no reason for them not to pay me when the job's done. I've never taken a deposit, never had any issues and hopefully will never need to.
